Beach Trip to Fort Fisher August 11-14

Posted on Jul 22 2016 - 6:32pm
Our next camping trip will be August 11 -14 (Thursday - Sunday) to the beach at Fort Fisher, NC.  Dave Padgett and the PLC are working on all the details for activites, but we wanted to get out the word to the parents since the trip will be a little more expensive than our regular trips because of the extended time. We will only need two camp sites for the boys to do tent camping. I looked into reserving rooms at the lodge but everything was booked, so the boys will have to tent it.  The following is an overview of the costs:
$5.00 per camper for camp site
$15.00 per camper for gas for vehicles
$50.00 per camper for food
$5.00 per camper for ferry ride
Total $80.00 per camper
Scouts will also need money for lunch on the way down and back.
There is a recreation hall on site with tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, and a basketball court free of charge.  There is also an outdoor swimming pool at the rec hall available to us including lifeguards.  We are planning on canoeing, going to the aquarium and riding our bicycles to the ferry.  Fees for canoeing and aquarium will be covered by the Troop.  If your scout needs to rent a bicycle/helmet, the cost of the trip for your scout may be a little higher.
Any adult wishing to go will pay the $80 fee and will pay additional fees for any activities he/she chooses to particpate in.
Please let us know YES or NO ASAP if your scout will be attending the beach trip so that we can make the correct reservations in the campground.  Attached is an Activity Consent form for the trip also.  We will begin taking money and forms at Court of Honor on July 26th.  There are no troop meetings for the next 2 weeks.  We will send out updates to the trip as different pieces are finalized.

Swim Test / Swimming Merit Badge Completion June 11th

Posted on May 30 2016 - 1:25pm

ALL Scouts will swim test for Summer Camp.

Scouts in the BEAR PATROL that attended Summer camp last year and did not complete the Swimming Merit Badge will do that at this time.  These Scouts need to bring a pair of blue jeans and a long sleeved shirt for completion.

Address is 7105 Pleasant Grove Road.  The house is back in the woods but the address is marked at the road.  There is a very wide gravel drive that leads back to the house.

Any Scout not in attendance on this day will have to swim test upon arrival at Summer Camp.

Summer Camp Info

Posted on May 30 2016 - 1:23pm
Below please find some crucial information regarding summer camp.  We are leaving in 4 weeks so please take a minute to check out the mandatory items below:
Mr. Jim has advised that there are only 2 boys in the Troop that have valid Health Forms for camp.  I have attached a blank health form for your convenience.  ALL participants (youth and adult) must have a valid health form in order to attend camp (this includes Parts A and both sides of B).  In addition, ALL participants (youth and adult) that stay MORE THAN 72 HOURS (which is just about everyone) must have Part C filled out by a physician.  If you do not have a primary care physician, you can visit an urgent care or Minute Clinic to have this taken care of.  ALL participants must have a Tetanus shot date listed on the form that is less than 10 years prior to the date of camp.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Jim or Malinda.
Cracker Barrel, Fuel and Tshirt Fees are due.  $25 is due for Cracker Barrel and Fuel with an additional $7.50 per tshirt.  At least one tshirt has been ordered for each person attending camp - if you ordered more than one, please send in the appropriate amount. In summary - if you only ordered one tshirt, your total camp fees are $32.50.  We will be having a Troop Feast of BBQ and fixins on Friday night.  This fee is included in the Cracker Barrel fee for those attending camp, but if you are a parent and wish to come up for the feast and final campfire on Friday, please send in $7.00 for your dinner.
For planning purposes, I have included below the list of days that Camp Grimes is celebrating this year.  Our Troop Tshirt will be the Camp Tshirt we have designed especially for camp.  Please plan to participate in every day as this helps our quest for the Spirit Stick. Between now and time for camp, we will be discussing with the boys other items needed for camp.
Monday Tacky Day
Tuesday College/Sports Team Day
Wednesday Hawaiian Day/Sunglasses day
Thursday Troop T-shirt Day
Friday Patriotic Day
The boys were given lists of their merit badges 2 weeks ago.  Please check in with them and make sure they are completing any prerequisites so that badges can be completed at camp.
